This section really is a journey through world class sport!
It all begins at the international Velodrome – NZ’s Home of Cycling and home to the NZ Cycling Team. Before you start, grab a coffee from the Bikery café and head upstairs in the velodrome to see where some of the fastest men and women in the world on two wheels do their stuff. You may even catch a glimpse of them training if you’re lucky!

This section starts with a short 3.5km (mainly downhill!) section into NZ’s Most Beautiful Large Town in 2019 J – Cambridge! Again, so many fab places to stop for food and drinks here – so keep it in mind for your return trip! There is a short on-road section through Cambridge until you get out the other side of town onto the Trail to the Lake. It’s all sign posted so you can’t get lost!

Once you’re on the other side, Te Awa takes you past the homes to some of NZ’s finest Thoroughbreds – past and present – with many horse studs along Maungatautari Road. You’ll then arrive at Lake Karapiro where we swap bikes for boats – and again, home to some of the world’s best athletes in the NZ Rowing team.

Refuelling at Podium Café is a must – with amazing food and amazing views over the Lake!
