NGARUAWAHIA TO HOROTIU

APPROX DISTANCE: 9KM

This section is currently under construction and is due to be completed late summer 2017. The route from SH1 Bridge in Ngaruawahia to coral Crescent is available to use. The connection to the BP Service Station and Perry Bike Park was completed in 2016. When complete, this section will be 9km long and will connect to the section at Horotiu Bridge that was opened in 2013.

HOROTIU TO HAMILTON EQUESTRIAN CENTRE

APPROX DISTANCE: 4.5KM

Construction was completed and this section opened in December 2013 – it is available to use now.
A counter installed on the section recorded nearly 4000 users in its first month, indicating that the trail is being well utilised.

HAMILTON

APPROX DISTANCE: 15.5KM

A walkway already exists though much of Hamilton City. Te Awa will work to enhance the existing trail (ie. where possible, expand it to a width of 3m) and develop additional connections to key features within the City. The expansions and additional connections will be considered once the main trail between Ngaruawahia and Horohora is complete.

HAMILTON TO AVANTIDROME

APPROX DISTANCE: 3.2KM

Initial drawings have been completed on this section and negotiations with landowners have commenced.
An interim map with options for cycling the connection via the road is available to download below.

AVANTIDROME TO LEAMINGTON

APPROX DISTANCE: 3.2KM

This section was opened on 12th April 2014 by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister John Key, along with the Gallagher Bike Skills Park. This section is proving to be very popular, with a counter installed on the trail logging over 5,000 users per week.

CAMBRIDGE TO MIGHTY RIVER DOMAIN

APPROX DISTANCE: 15.2KM

This section links Leamington to the Mighty River Domain at Lake Karapiro and was completed in time for the 2010 World Rowing Championships. Nearly 500 people attended the Grand Opening of the section and a counter installed along on the path indicated that the trail enjoyed widespread use.

MIGHTY RIVER DOMAIN TO HORAHORA

The remaining trail, leading to the Horahora Bridge and thereby connecting to the existing Waikato River Trail, will be progressed from mid-2017.
